Our client is one of the largest wholesale manufacturer and distributor of fresh delivered foods in the United States. The company has multi-billion dollar revenues and operates manufacturing facilities and delivers its products through delivery routes across the USA.


POSITION SUMMARY:
The position requires leadership of the Human Resources function for a dynamic, multi-location consumer goods, DSD, company experiencing rapid change and expansion. The position exists to provide the Company with a highly skilled human resource professional to manage day-to-day human resource programs insuring development, implementation, maintenance and monitoring of various human resource/organizational development strategies, as well as advising and counseling line management on appropriate interpretation and administration of policies, procedures and practices in order to maintain an employee relations environment necessary for efficient operations. Beyond the challenges expected in such a position; of special importance will be the ability of this individual to build a Human Resource function within a corporate culture described as informal, demanding, consensus oriented, with an emphasis on teamwork rather than individual accomplishment, and utmost respect for one another.
The ideal candidate will be a focused businessperson with a commitment to leveraging people to achieve business results. The incumbent will serve as a critical member of the Senior Management Leadership Team.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for insuring the appropriate recruitment, hiring, orientation, career planning and training of employees including maintaining appropriate recruiting sources, interviewing job applicants, processing and orienting newly hired employees on all work, safety, and company rules, policies, procedures, practices and principles; conduct career planning and counseling to prepare employees for future advancement opportunities to maintain the appropriate skill level to meet business needs.
Responsible for coordinating the development, implementation, administration and monitoring of all company locations training activities including orientation/indoctrination training, on-the-job training plans, specialized vocational and vendor training, interpersonal and team building training, leadership training, safety training and emergency response training; counsels and advises employees on outside training opportunities and administers the employee assistance program. May assist with course design, training facilitation and follow through as necessary to insure appropriate utilization of all training resources.
Responsible for insuring consistent interpretation and administration of all company rules, procedures, practices and principles relating to employee relations; counsels and advises management on grievance handling and recommends approaches to resolve employee relations problems; identifies and proposes modification to rules, procedures and practices as necessary to meet changing/emerging employee relations strategies.

Insures appropriate administration of company compensation and benefits activities to include conducting wage and benefit surveys, developing appropriate wage and benefit recommendations to help the company maintain a competitive position in the community; audits administration of pay and progression systems to insure consistent application of such systems and advises management on plans and strategies necessary to maintain system integrity.

Provides leadership in developing, implementing, administering and monitoring employee career development plans with emphasis on preparing employees to become multi-skilled team members. Coordinates activities with General Managers to insure that career, training and progression plans are consistently administered to provide equal opportunity for all employees.

Provides primary leadership for all company Organizational Development strategies and coordinates such activities with appropriate line management to acquire buy-in and support for local activities.

Administers various supervisory training programs on Human Resource practices administration, effective supervisory techniques, meeting facilitation, interactive skill building, leadership and team building techniques and special programs tailored to location specific needs.

Advises and counsels management on the application of Federal and State labor and employment laws to insure compliance, and coordinates such activities with appropriate corporate staff. Responsible for day-to-day interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreements.

Champions the role of people advocate for people issues across the company.

Proactively oversee the development, implementation and administration of programs for the advancement of diversity throughout the client and compliance to all federal, state and local employment legislation.

Assist the labor relations function, participating in the development of the labor strategy, collective bargaining negotiations and administration of contracts.

Create a system to collect, analyze and report the field and corporate office employee morale levels and perceptions of service levels including recommendations to improve areas that are creating problems.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

Undergraduate degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant business experience, including leadership and management responsibility in positions of increasing responsibility within a services or customer focused environment. This includes the management of a line HR organization either for a major business or unit.
Demonstrated experience serving in both strategic and operational roles and strong desire to do both.
Demonstrated knowledge and impact of business and the alignment of HR with the business.
Demonstrated experience creating, implementing and leading the HR function strategies and tactics in high growth environments.
Past inclusion as a member of a senior management team that has successfully created and achieved aggressive strategic and operating results.
Demonstrated strong foundation in all HR areas, including compensation, benefits, labor relations, employee relations, training and development, staffing, employment and succession planning.
Experience working with organized labor.
Capacity to manage multiple and competing demands/projects.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Demonstrated capability to deliver against aggressive goals.
Must possess the ability to be strategic and operational in a role that requires a balance of both.
